Are You an Efficient Dentist?

No—I am not an efficient dentist. And I am proud of that.

Life is not about efficiency. Sitting at a Paris sidewalk café for hours is inefficient, but meaningful. Drinking vitamins would be efficient—but boring.

I don’t rush patients in and out. I listen, talk, and take my time. I’ve never been pulled over for driving too slowly, but I see many people rushing through life—and dentistry.

What is the rush? If I can keep your teeth healthy forever, why rush braces, crowns, or implants? What is another month?

That’s why I dislike “six-month smiles” and “teeth in a day.”

Braces are beautiful. Wearing braces is something to be proud of. Metal braces tell the world you are taking care of your body.

I also dislike “teeth in an hour.” A world-famous dentist once said that if he were treating his own family, he would choose traditional implant methods—not same-day techniques. That said everything I needed to hear.

Effective dentist? Yes.
Efficient dentist? Efficient for whom?
